The M Type is the first proper production MG sportscar, and is therefore
an important model. It featured an overhead cam 847cc four cylinder
engine, coupled to a three speed non syncromesh gearbox. This is an
early example, with fabric covered body and rear hinged doors. The
M-type had considerable sporting success, winning gold medals in the
1929 Land's End Trial, and class wins in the 1930 "Double Twelve"
race at Brooklands. An entry was also made in the 1930 Le Mans 24
hour. Today it is a welcome entry to many glamorous events, including
the Mille Miglia.
This example has been accepted by the Triple M register as an original
M Type. It has been totally restored from a bare frame upwards. This
rebuild is documented by many invoices and dozens of photographs held
on a CD. The engine sounds excellent and is quite fresh, so a period
of gentle running is recommended. The rebuild has been completed to
a high standard, and the car has hardly been used since completion.
There is no weather equipment, and the car is fitted with aero screens
only. These cars come up for sale only very rarely, although oddly
enough at time of writing we have two in stock.
