MG RV8 Story

Rover were looking to revive the MG name following research that indicated a great deal of support in the country for the Octagonal MG trademark logo. The MGB had after all been the best selling sportscar of it's era. There followed a proposal to up-date the MGB roadster using the Rover V8 engine and a vastly improved specification. In fact only 5% of original MGB parts were used in the final production model. The new car was launched in October 1992 and went on sale a few months later. Demand in the UK at £ 26,000 was lower than anticipated. However in October 1993 the car was displayed at the Tokyo motor show and was an immediate hit. Some 1,300 orders were received shortly after the show.

In total some 1,982 cars only were produced. The UK market accounted for only 307 of these. Japan was the car's best market selling some 1,583 units. The last car was produced in 1995.

The RV8 was a "world car" with just one basic specification being built for home and export markets. Today the model has much to commend it. A true British sportscar with classic styling. There is performance to spare and that lazy V8 is just a delight. The car is not particularly noisy and has a comfortable ride. Couple this appeal with surroundings of leather and elm burr with air conditioning as standard and it is easy to see why enthusiasts the world over are turning to the model. Very limited supply should underpin investment nicely. Lets face it if you drive a TVR everyone with think you have borrowed your sons ! We cannot think of a more fun, practical and comfortable option in the classic car market today.
